One of the fast-rising MCs to have emerged in the past two years, 21 Savage, will be taking over The LIGHT Vegas on Wednesday, Aug. 30.
On the heels of his recently released album, Issa Album, which debuted at No. 2 on the charts, you’d be hard pressed to find a rapper killing it in the game like 21 Savage. With hits like “Bank Account,” “Famous,” and “Numb,” there is plenty to love about his recent release, and you can bet he will be laying down all these tracks and more at LIGHT.
It’s clear that 21 Savage knows his audience and understands how to promote. Similar to Gucci Mane and Metro Boomin’ teasing their mixtape all over Instagram, Savage put out an account with a fun cartoon to promote Issa Album. You can check that out here.
21 Savage opened up to Rolling Stone recently about mumble rap and how people believe him because he raps honestly.
“People believe me, and they don’t really believe a lot of people,” says the Atlanta-based rapper. “They feel like I’m telling the truth – ’cause I’m telling the truth. That’s why a lot of people gravitate towards me: I’m a real nigga in a fake-ass industry.”
I don’t feel like nobody who they say [is] mumble rap mumbles,” he says in response to those who categorize him. “They don’t understand my slang or my accent. They don’t know how to categorize it, ’cause it’s art. They’re just trying to bring it down.”
He also credits Atlanta hip hop producers Sonny Digital and (our resident DJ) Metro Boomin for encouraging him to pursue a career in hip hop. He shows his home grown southern roots when he says, when sitting next to new girlfriend Amber Rose, that New York is just “a place to spend money.” Ain’t that the truth!
